Universal Design for Learning and Digital citizen

 

    Universal Design for Learning or UDL for short, is a unique approach to teach all learners. This approach recognizes that all individuals learn differently and has formulated several guidelines or methods to help aid in teaching all individuals. 

 

     The use of Universal Design for Learning is important because it benefits all learners. UDL use variety of methods to remove any learning barriers that may arise. 

 

  

 UDL has three main principles: engagement, representations, and action and expression. 

Engagement motivates the leaners and keeps them interested. Quizlet if a prime example of engagement. Quizlet offers a variety of methods to learn in order to keep users interested such as quizzes, flashcards, and audio.

    Representation offers the information in many formats. YouTube is a prime example of representation. YouTube offers videos about every topic that comes to mind, included in those videos are transcripts, music and or audio dictation.

     Action and expression allow learners a variety of ways to interact with the material at hand. Canva is a prime example of action and expression. Canva allows users to create any type of media you can think of including worksheets, pamphlets, posters, and so much more. 

In the today’s society almost, everyone is a digital citizen to one or more platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, or TikTok.  Each platform listed before entails a learning structure, lingo, rules and a unique set of social norms.
